Artist Biography

J. Karl Bogartte was born on September 8, 1944. He is both a poet and artist. He invented the method of Photomorphosis in 1972, after an extended stay in Europe. He studied photography for several years - then lost interest in art - abandoned both Photomorphosis and photography, and began playing with the computer. At the beginning of 2000 he discovered a series of links between science, technology, dreams and desire, (between the psyche and the machine) and explored the magic of digital manipulation..

Artist Statement

As one who writes and makes images, what draws my attention is an evolving relationship between dream and reality as a purely revolutionary state of being; as a continuous revolt of the human spirit against the ordinary scenario.

What inspires me completely is that vantage point in the mind, where the real and the imaginary, light and dark, life and death cease to be perceived as contradiction. It is an alchemical quest, and a surrealist point of origin that can be mirrored in contemporary physics. It is in this realm that I find myself playing a very enchanted game..
